injustices climatiques

A film for an exhibition at Geneva’s Musée d’Ethnographie

The exhibition at Geneva’s Musée d’Ethnographie deals with the climate emergency. It presents “the perspectives, knowledge and know-how of indigenous peoples to cope with the degradation of their territories accelerated by climate change”. I had the opportunity to make one of the films for this exhibition.

Adapt to the venue’s scenography and native theme…

The exhibition’s designers created it with recycling in mind; many of the materials used were salvaged from previous exhibitions or made from raw materials (wood, Meudon white paint, etc.). I was inspired to create a film based on this concept, animated from photo collages or elements made from recycled and photographed elements. In this way, the weaver’s habit was hand-woven and photographed.

Explain with graphics and metaphor

The scenario was developed by the Biosphère Institute in conjunction with the Geneva Ethnographic Museum. It explores the tensions between the exploitation of raw materials, climate change and indigenous populations. The different relationships between humans and nature are symbolized in the film by a weaver, whose garment is unravelling, and industrial weaving machines that overexploit resources. Each graphic is thus introduced by one or other metaphor.
