transition écologique

A film for training staff at the State of Geneva

The film “La transition écologique: changer de cap, ensemble et sans attendre” (Ecological transition: changing course, together and without delay) is part of a training module for staff at the State of Geneva. Employees of the administration take part in this program to consider together possible courses of action in favor of the ecological transition. The module is made up of in-house training (including this animated film and the video clips I co-produced) and on-site training in the form of team-building activities. The film script and the training in general were produced by a communications company specializing in science: Communication in Science Sàrl.

We’re all in the same boat

The film alternates graphics and story. While communication in science Sàrl provided the script for the graphics and the voice-over, we worked together to develop the metaphor that illustrates the story underpinned by the graphics. The idea was to show mankind in a boat sailing on a land that is not unlimited. The boat is heading for the “planetary limits”, symbolizing the fact that we are using far too many non-renewable resources.

Change course!

During the film, people adopt a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle (replacing engines with wind power, catching organic fish…). The boat may be slowing down, but it’s still heading for the abyss. The idea of the film was to show that it’s not enough to adapt our means of consumption, but that the change must be systemic, towards a circular economy. The state, the economy and the population all need to change course together.
